Foundation Communities works with partners in Arlington to offer more than just homes for families with low incomes:
After-School and Summer Programs for Children Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington offer tutoring and activities for about 200 kids on-site at Shadow Brook on weekdays after school and during the summer. Programs at Sleepy Hollow are directed by a full-time resident services coordinator.
Computer Lab Classes Courses in computer basics and Microsoft Office applications are offered in both English and Spanish to community residents. Lab times are also available for individuals to surf the net, search for jobs, do homework, use e-mail, etc.
Adult Education at Your Doorstep Both communities have adult learning centers with classes that improve English language skills, educate families to make good financial decisions, and improve personal relationships. Classes are offered regularly in English and Spanish.
Individual Development Accounts The IDA program enables residents to open matched savings accounts for major life investments including buying a home, obtaining higher education, or starting a small business. The program matches every $1 they save with another $2.
Community Tax Centers Foundation Communities offers free income-tax preparation for North Texas families earning $40,000 or less and individuals earning $25,000 or less. In the last three years, Arlington tax center volunteers helped return $2.5 million in tax credits and refunds to families.
Senior Activities We work with senior residents to provide activities, speakers, and information about services and socialization opportunities.
Strengthening Our Community Both properties have crime watch groups providing training and direction to members so they can assist police and be active in protecting their communities. Shadow Brook and Sleepy Hollow hold annual National Night Out celebrations.
Social Service Referrals Both apartment communities offer referrals and information to residents and others. Shadow Brook has a licensed social worker to provide additional help.
